Cebu City is mourning the loss of 35-year-old Ivan Serintas Avila, who tragically died on the spot following a multi-motorcycle collision on Monday. Avila, a resident of Cebu City, was fatally injured when he was struck during an incident captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in Barangay Lahug, according to the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office.
The CCTV footage shows that Avila and his motorcycle were traveling toward the downtown area of Cebu City, with Avila preparing to make a turn onto Solon Drive when the collision occurred. A motorcycle following him, driven by 21-year-old Dendril Montehermoso, with an 11-year-old passenger identified as Dember, reportedly counterflowed and collided with Avila’s motorcycle.
The force of the impact caused all riders to be thrown from their vehicles. Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was subsequently run over by another motorcycle in the chaotic aftermath of the crash. The collision caused severe trauma to Avila, including extensive head and body injuries, resulting in his death at the scene.
Emergency responders quickly transported Montehermoso and his young passenger to a nearby hospital. Both were subjected to alcohol and drug testing as part of the ongoing investigation. In a separate development, another rider involved in the incident later surrendered at the Barangay Hall of Sambag 2 around 1 p.m. Monday, cooperating with police in the investigation.
